No. 01 The story

Five years in the museum's Collections Department, on the team that launched Arago, the Smithsonian's first virtual museum collections website, and creating online exhibits and school programs for the public.

Alex joined the Collections Department of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in 2005, at nineteen, while still a student at George Washington University. He stayed five years as a collections specialist and web projects developer.

He was part of the team that launched Arago, the Smithsonian's first virtual museum collections website, which debuted in 2006 at the Washington 2006 World Philatelic Exhibition. Arago opened the museum's collection to researchers and curious visitors alike.

He wrote and built online exhibits for general audiences, including American Art on Postage Stamps and a mini-exhibit marking the Mayflower's departure in 1620. He took the museum's digital collections into classrooms across the country, and in 2009 he spent a week as a guest lecturer at Newberry College in South Carolina.
